Contrary to popular belief, color is not perceived by observing its supposed pigment. In fact, color is a property of light, being detected only because objects absorb rays of light. So instead of an apple actually being red, it would absorb all of the rays of light except red, which would then be reflected into our eyes.

In our exploration into color theory, we used Adobe Illustrator to create a color wheel—showing the twelve primary, secondary, and tertiary colors, along with their tints and shades.

We also demonstrated various color schemes using rectangles and these same colors. The achromatic color scheme involved black, gray, and white, and various tints and shades. The basic primary color scheme involved red, yellow, and blue. The complementary color scheme involved colors opposite on the color wheel, along with their tints and shades, and the analogous color schemes involved colors that were next to each other on the color wheel.
